New Year, New River: Art Contest

Save California Salmon invites artists and youth from California and Oregon to submit original artwork inspired by river restoration. The 2026 theme celebrates free-flowing rivers, watershed healing and our shared responsibility to care for rivers and life. Classrooms are encouraged to participate.

Submission Guidelines

Submissions via email must include:

 

  • Artist name and age

  • City and state

  • Tribal and/or school affiliation, if you have one.

  • Artwork title (if applicable)

  • Medium

Theme Focus

River restoration and dam removal • Healthy rivers • Salmon, wildlife, plants, and river habitats

 

Who Can Enter

Open to artists of all ages who live in California or Oregon (Youth artists are encouraged)

Mediums Accepted

Drawing • Painting • Digital Illustration •

Poetry (judged separately)

Artwork requirements

 

  • Original, human-made artwork only (NO AI)

  • Limited color palette (3–4 colors max)

  • High-contrast designs that can be printed on posters or a t-shirt

Poetry Requirements

 

  • Original poetry only

  • Any style or form

  • Must connect clearly to the theme

Submit to info@californiasalmon.org by January 20th. Include name, age, city and state, Tribal and/or school affiliation (if applicable), title, and medium.

Selected work may be used in action alerts and printed materials. Artists will always be credited and shared.
